The Week of Warriors blood donation campaign has proven that the youth of the Western Cape are ready to step up and save lives. From Monday, 28 July to Friday, 1 August 2025, ten top blood donation high schools across the province joined forces to host a week-long series of blood donation clinics — and the results were nothing short of inspiring.
Over the week, 246 new blood donors rolled up their sleeves for the very first time, taking the first step on what we hope will be a lifelong journey of giving. Together, these young donors could help save over 700 patients in need.
The Week of Warriors is a campaign designed to engage high school learners, create awareness about the importance of blood donation, and recruit first-time donors between the ages of 16 and 18. By bringing blood donation clinics directly to schools, we remove barriers to participation and create a positive, supportive first experience for young donors.
The 2025 campaign saw clinics at the following participating schools:
• Fairmont High School
• Protea Heights Academy
• Westerford High School
• The Settlers High School
• Spine Road High School
• Edgemead High School
• Livingstone High School
• Worcester Gymnasium
• Apex High School
• DF Malan High School
Campaign Highlights
School halls and auditoriums were transformed into buzzing donation clinics filled with anticipation, laughter, and pride. Learners who had never donated before overcame their nerves, supported by friends, classmates, and our staff. Those who were unable to donate still played a vital role — spreading the word and cheering on their peers.
To boost awareness beyond the school gates, we partnered with KFM radio. Throughout the week, a dedicated campaign spot ad aired alongside daily shout-outs to the schools that had participated the day before. The campaign also received media coverage through a press release, helping spread the message of “Let’s unite to save lives” across the province.
Why Youth Blood Donors Matter
Young donors are the foundation of a sustainable blood supply, making youth participation in campaigns such as this is critical for the future. Introducing learners to blood donation helps build a habit of regular giving, ensuring that the Western Cape continues to meet the needs of patients. By engaging learners through campaigns like the Week of Warriors, we not only secure future donors but also inspire a culture of compassion, and altruism.
Looking Ahead
As we celebrate the success of this campaign, we also look forward to building on the momentum for future clinics. The Week of Warriors is proof that when schools, communities, and, of course, we, work together, remarkable things happen. We are deeply grateful to every learner who donated, every teacher who encouraged participation, and every Blood Donor Ambassador who helped. The Week of Warriors showed that unity saves lives. Let’s unite and continue to save lives!
