Blood Bank Revises Its Sample Requirement to Less Than 24 Hours Old
The Blood Banks have reviewed their criteria for optimal sample processing and effective 17 May 2024, samples received by the Blood Bank must be less than 24 hours old from the time drawn from the patient to be accepted. This will ensure that crossmatching procedures are accurate and reliable.
An exception will be made for patient samples from upcountry hospitals and healthcare facilities, where samples should be less than 48 hours old for acceptance at the Blood Bank.
