The national CANSA Shavathon once again brought communities together, raising vital funds for the Cancer Association of South African while highlighting the courage and resilience of those facing cancer.
For many cancer patients, losing one’s hair is a visible and emotional side effect of treatment. By shaving or spraying their hair in bright colours, participants symbolically stand in support of those on their cancer journey.
Since 2023, WCBS has proudly supported this impactful cause. On 4 March 2026, the Shavathon team returned to our head office, where staff eagerly stepped up to take part. Whether they sprayed, shaved or made a donation, the morning was a great success. In just two and a half hours, an impressive R2980 was raised, surpassing our target of R2600. Previous years saw us collect R3210 in 2023, R2600 in 2024 and R1750 in 2025. We are back on track to increase our collections in 2027.
As CANSA put it, “Shavathon is far more than a fundraiser – it’s a visible act of unity.” Participants come together to stand alongside cancer patients and survivors, to honour those currently in treatment, and to remember loved ones lost to this disease.
Events like these remind us that impact doesn’t always require grand gestures; it can be a simple act of spraying your hair, donating blood or providing support where it’s needed most. One thing is clear; when people come together for a cause, great things happen, and lives are touched in ways that truly matter.
