On this special day, June 16, we are shining a spotlight on the incredible impact of young heroes who are doing big things and changing the world, one donation at a time. Yes, you read that right – by donating blood, our young heroes are saving lives and demonstrating just how powerful one donation is to our communities. With this, Happy Youth Day!

Young blood donors between the ages of 16 and 25 years contribute a great deal to the blood supply of the Western Cape community, accounting for about 22% of the whole blood collected by the Western Cape Blood Service.

The Impact of Youth Donations

Youth blood donors play a crucial role in blood donation. By starting to donate as early as 16 years old, they help maintain a stable and sustainable blood supply. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to these young heroes for their selfless contributions, which are vital in saving lives.

Schools Leading the Way

A huge thank you to schools we’ve had long-standing partnerships with and of course the newbies, for allowing our teams to host blood donation at their schools. Consistently helping us to recruit, educate and promote blood donation.

Notable among these are Plumstead High School (1995), Rustenburg Girls’ High School (1996), Pinelands High School (1997), and Worcester Gymnasium High School (1997) which have been hosting regular blood donation clinics since 1995 respectively.

Join the Movement

As we celebrate our young heroes, we encourage other schools and youth across the Western Cape to join the movement. By participating in blood donation, you too can save lives and make a lasting difference in your community. Contact us to find out how your school can get involved and become part of this life-saving journey.

Together, let’s continue to support and celebrate the incredible contributions of our youth blood donors—they are not just the future; they are the present heroes making a tangible difference today.
