The Clinical Guidelines for the Use of Blood Products in South Africa is a premier publication compiled by the national Blood Services and plasma fractionation company. This booklet aims to promote best transfusion practices for blood users and policy makers.
The Guidelines provide authoritative recommendations for patient blood management (PBM), legal aspects of blood transfusion, ordering and administration of blood, red cell component usage, platelet product transfusion, plasma components and derivatives, leucocyte depletion and irradiation of blood components, and haemovigilance (i.e. surveillance of the risks associated with blood donation and transfusion).
