This Privacy Policy governs your use of the WCBS Mobile Application (“Application”), developed for Western Cape Blood Service (“WCBS”) by First Technology Digital (“First Tech Digital”).

1. INTENT

The Application is for current and prospective donors of WCBS. The Application allows such donors to, amongst other features, see fixed and mobile donation stations (“Where Can I Donate”), navigate to fixed or mobile donation stations, see donor information (“Profile”), see present WCBS stock levels, read about WCBS, see available WCBS social media channels, set blood donation reminders and contact WCBS.

2. YOUR CONSENT

By using the Application, you are willingly providing consent to the terms stipulated in this Privacy Policy.

2.1 USER PROVIDED INFORMATION

Standard features of the Application are available to prospective donors without the need to be registered. For you to receive the full value from the donor profile features offered by the Application and for the Application to function to the full intended purpose, you will require a valid donor profile. A donor profile is obtained after your first donation at any WCBS donation station. Donor profile information that will be obtained include blood type, donation number, and donation venues. The Application will also make use of personal information inclusive of first name, last name, birth date, blood type donor code and ID number. You will be prompted for a password at a minimum of 6 characters that is stored and encrypted according to best practice.

2.2 INTERACTION INFORMATION

To offer you a quality service, interaction information is stored. We store information you provide us securely when you contact us for help, in addition to the information provided pertaining to your interaction with the Application. To help improve your user experience, the Application automatically collects device information, including, but not limited to, manufacturer, model, platform, version, serial, UUID, IP, and Internet browser.

2.3 LOCATION INFORMATION

To offer you a quality service in terms of navigating to fixed or mobile donation stations, the Application will prompt you to share the location of your mobile device.

3. INFORMATION PROCESSING

Processing of your information refers to but is not limited to, the collection, storage, archiving, deletion, transmission, analysis or disclosure of your information. All such activities will take place in South Africa. If you reside outside of South Africa, your information will be transferred, processed and stored under South African Privacy Standards.

4. THIRD PARTY INFORMATION ACCESS

We may disclose User Provided and Interaction Information in the following instances:

• As required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena or similar legal process.
• When we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others or investigate fraud.
• With trusted service providers who work on our behalf and do not have an independent use of the information we disclose to them and have agreed to adhere to the rules set forth in this Privacy Policy.

5. OPTING-OUT

You can stop the collection of information by the Application by uninstalling via standard uninstall processes available as part of your mobile device or mobile Application marketplace.

6. DATA MANAGEMENT & RETENTION

User Provided Information will be retained for the duration you use the Application for and for a reasonable time thereafter, whereas Interaction Information will be retained and stored in aggregate. You may request the deletion of your User Provided Information by sending an email to app@wcbs.org.za (we shall respond in a reasonable time accordingly).

7. SECURITY

We are committed to the safeguarding the confidentiality of your information. We provide all reasonable physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to protect the information we process and maintain. For example, we limit access to this information to authorized employees and contractors who need to know that information to operate, develop or improve our Application. Please be aware that, although we endeavour to provide reasonable security for information we process and maintain, no security system can prevent all potential security breaches.

8. CHANGES

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time for any reason. We will notify you of any changes to our Privacy Policy by posting the new Privacy Policy here. You are advised to consult this Privacy Policy regularly for any changes, as continued use is deemed approval of all changes.
