The Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) has commissioned a purpose-built headquarters in Oude Molen Road, Maitland, to meet future needs for the provision of blood products and services in the province. The building is near completion and relocation is planned for November through January. This will be carefully orchestrated so as not to disrupt the blood supply.
Oude Molen Road is located in the medical precinct that has the added advantage of providing WCBS easier access to several freeways and opportunities for quicker turnaround times.
The new building is almost 20% larger in size than the current premises and incorporates the Service’s warehouse, which was previously located separately in Beaconvale. With workflow optimisation a priority, the laboratories, Apheresis unit and Specialised Donations unit will be on the ground floor and administration offices on the top floor.
