Pulse – The Beat That Connects the Service and Its Donors Through Innovation

by Marike Gevers

Earlier this year we told you about Pulse – our new Medical System that connects the Service and its donors through innovation. Pulse will be a world-class vein to vein system, using state of the art technology which will provide an efficient donor, patient and stock management information system.

Phase one comprises of Clinic Modernisation, which entails a more integrated collection system from the start of the blood donation process to the back-end of the laboratories. This means that we will be able to get a real-time look at clinics’ performance and the blood types and stocks moving from the donation clinic to the laboratories for processing. This process will enhance the current way we work and make the working environment more efficient and ultimately paperless.

During September, we launched the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) as part of clinic modernisation, with a number of donors volunteering to donate as part of the MVP trial. During the MVP trial, Pulse was tested and system errors were ironed out.

On Monday, 18 October 2021, we launched Pulse at our blood donation centre at 9 Long Street. We are very excited to roll out in the coming months. Phase two will comprise of Donor Digital Experience, which will enable you to complete the donor questionnaire online. More information about this exciting roll-out will follow in the new year. Keep an eye on our website and social media for more.
